True Definition of a Neighborhood Shop
What’s the true definition of a neighborhood business? To us it’s a place you can go where everyone knows your name. It embodies and appeals to all generations. It reminds you of a more simple time.
And that’s exactly what you’ll find at the Rockbrook Village Barber Shop.
“We are one of the few barber shops that can still be considered a neighborhood shop,” says new owner Jarryd Gowan. “It has always been our mission to provide quality haircuts at affordable prices, but serving generations of families year after year is what makes us unique.”
Not only are they the longest standing business in the shopping center to date, but this month the tradition lives on as former owner Doug Partch passes the torch and sells the shop to Nebraska native Jarryd Gowan.
“I was looking to sell the business to a younger person with barbering skills, who is passionate about traditional barbering and knows the craft,” says Partch.
Gowan adds, “I fell in love with this place the moment I walked in, it’s one of the very few traditional barber shops left in Omaha.”
And rooted in tradition it is. Since 1960, the Rockbrook Village Barber Shop has been cutting men and boys hair. So how do they explain the trendy resurgence of men’s barbering?
“Barbering techniques haven’t changed much, but men are seeking out the right men’s hair cut now,” says Gowan. “When we go to barbering school we spend 2,000 plus hours just cutting men’s hair, that’s it.” He adds, “This is what we do, period.”
Gowan plans to keep the shop rooted in tradition and much the same, with the exception of cosmetic changes and a potential expansion. Partch will continue to barber and take care of his customers like he has for over four decades.
Rockbrook Village Barber Shop caters to men and boys with services that include haircuts, shaves and beard trims, and are one of the last standing barber shops to offer clean shaves.
Rockbrook Village Barber Shop is located in Rockbrook Village® off of 108th & Center. And is a true example of the original local business.
